Acting Central President of Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Federation Professor Harunur Rashid Khan and General Secretary Advocate Atiqur Rahman have expressed deep mourning and sorrow over the deaths of more than five hundred people in the terrible earthquake in the southeastern part of Turkey bordering Syria. In a joint condolence message today, the leaders prayed to Allah for the souls of the dead and the recovery of the injured.
The leaders evoked the Turkish and Syrian governments, as well as the world leaders, to come forward to rescue the people trapped under the rubble at this time of crisis. The leaders said that “this earthquake is one of the biggest disasters of the century”. Search and rescue teams should be sent to disaster areas as soon as possible.
The leaders are expecting that the governments of both countries will play an important role in helping the families of those killed in the earthquake and in bringing the injured back to normal life.
Note that the earthquake hit at 4:17 a.m. local time today. The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.8 on the Richter scale. The US Geological Survey estimates that 10,000 people will die in the earthquake. Most of the people were sleeping at that time.
