Every year, numerous workers are injured or killed in on-the-job accidents. It is a matter of sorrow that no one looks after the families of laborers who are victims of accidents. The state and employers should take responsibility for the labor families who are victims of the accidents.
He said this today while distributing sewing machines, goats and cash for employment among the families of laborers who were killed and injured in the fire at BM depot in Sitakunda, Chittagong, as part of the rehabilitation project of Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Federation. At the event, SM Lutfar Rahman, former Chairman of Banskhali Upazila Zahirul Islam, Chittagong South District President of the Federation Nurul Hossain, North District General Secretary Jasim Uddin Azad, South District Organizing Secretary Muktar Hossain Shikdar, Treasurer Sharful Amin Chowdhury, former UP Chairman Ariful Islam, Dakshin Banshkhali Upazila President Mohiuddin, etc. were present during the event.
At that time, he said, the owners get wealthier through the work of the laborers as well as the wheels of the state’s economy are in motion. We can’t imagine how the state system remains silent while the economy runs depending on the laborers’ work even after they suffer an accident. We demand that the state be the first to step forward for the welfare of workers after any kind of accident takes place. Through the labor act, the state should assume responsibility for managing employer compensation. On top of that, on the basis of necessity, initiatives should be taken from the state treasury to rehabilitate the families of dead and disabled laborers.
Kabir Ahmad said, “Sramik Kalyan Federation is working for the welfare of hardworking labourers of the country. Whenever any laborer is in danger, Sramik Kalyan has tried its best to stand by him. In spite of any natural or artificial calamity in the country, the Federation has rushed to take the vow of welfare service within its meager capacity. Whenever sromik kollan saw the suffering of the laborers, it reached there at great speed and tried to play a maximum role by providing service.
Kabir Ahmad addressed the affected family members that, “Allah Rabbul Alamin tests us, the servants, with fear, hunger, loss of wealth, by crop damage, life and death. Those who face this test with patience become successful. So, we who are suffering today have nothing to fear. Undoubtedly, Allah will give us a good reward on the Day of Resurrection.
