According to Professor Harunur Rashid Khan, the Central President (acting) of the Bangladesh Labor Welfare Federation, the government has made life difficult for farmers and workers while concealing its graft and theft. By launching megaprojects one after another under the guise of development, thousands of crores of Taka have been illegally exported.
In the capital’s auditorium today, he made these remarks during his presidential address to the central executive committee of the Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Federation. The conference was moderated by the Federation Central General Secretary, Advocate Alamgir Hossain, and was attended by Federation Central Vice President Golam Rabbani, Lashkar Muhammad Taslim, Kabir Ahmad, Mujibur Rahman Bhuiyan, Mansoor Rahman, Abdus Salam, Mohammad Mohibbullah, Treasurer Azharul Islam, Office Secretary Nurul Amin, and others.
According to Harunur Rashid, prices for basic goods have been rising steadily in the nation since last year. This price increase has left farmers, workers, and other hard-working people in despair. Farmers already do not receive a fair price for their output. While this is going on, the government has raised the price of urea fertilizer, which is problematic for farmers. Due to the rise in the cost of agricultural products, farmers in this situation would lose interest in farming. As a result, there could be a serious food crisis and the cost of the item could rise again while food is imported.
He also said that the government has announce an abnormal increase in fuel price overnight and once again proved that they are not people-oriented. When the price of fuel is decreasing in the world market, the government unilaterally announced the increase in the price of fuel oil without thinking. The negative impact of the price hike of fuel has already started to fall everywhere, starting with agriculture. Increase in the price of diesel and urea fertilizers will increase the cost of farming. On the other hand, the price of goods will also increase due to the increase in the rent of vehicles. As a result of this, the most affected and sufferer will be the farmers-labourer and common people.
Professor Haroon Rashid said that the government is trying to hide looting and corruption by so many baseless logical. But it is clear as day that today we have to reach out to the IMF because the government people have smuggled thousands of crores of taka abroad in the name of mega projects. And the IMF is imposing their unreasonable conditions on us. And the government is accepting the condition to allow more corruption and looting. We appeal to the government to immediately bring back the money laundered abroad and to stop the price hike of all commodities and cancel the unreasonable price hike of all goods up to now.
