In a joint statement, Central President (Acting) of Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Federation Professor Harunur Rashid Khan and General Secretary Advocate Atiqur Rahman said that Bangladesh is going through an extremely difficult time due to the constant looting, corruption and misrule of the government. They hold ordinary people accountable for their failure. They are making the lives of laborers and common people miserable by increasing the prices of daily necessities one after another. In order to restore the comfort in the lives of the people of the country, the price-hike of essential commodities, including fuel oil, should be withdrawn immediately.
The leaders said that the government is using various tactics to cover up its failure. They are saying that there is no crisis in the country. On the other hand, they are trying to get loans from international lenders. To fulfill various unreasonable conditions of the lenders, it has already increased the price of urea fertilizer by Tk.300 per bag. In this continuation, fuel oil prices increased by 34-46 taka yesterday. The people of the country clearly feel that the government is allowing the party people to do more corruption and looting while making way for the creditors. There is a risk that this loan money might be smuggled abroad like before.
The leaders said that the government is giving baseless excuses to the people by increasing the prices of everything. The people of the country no longer believe these excuses. Even when the price of oil fell in the world market, the government did not feel the need to reduce the price of oil. Rather than the price of oil in the world market being stable, the government has only caused suffering in public life by increasing the price.
The leaders said that relief should be brought back to the lives of laborers and ordinary people by the immediate withdrawal of all unreasonable price hikes. All corruption and looting of the government should be stopped, and all past misdeeds should be properly investigated. Otherwise, the people of the country will soon come forward and take the streets against all the oppression and mismanagement of the government.
