This request to the owners was made by Acting President of the Federation Professor Harunur Rashid Khan and General Secretary Advocate Atiqur Rahman in a joint statement released today. The leaders declared that before the Eid holidays, the state and the owners had a duty to ensure that the workers in the garment industry, industrial factories, public and private offices, and institutional and non-institutional sectors received their outstanding salaries, the current month’s salary and allowances, and an Eid bonus.
The leaders stated that the wages that the employees receive do not provide for their families. However, low-income workers have no savings due to the sharp increase in commodity prices. Consequently, to buy new clothes and some sugar for the family during the Eid celebration, the workers must rely on the Eid bonus. We hope that the employer will treat the employees with the respect they deserve.
The leaders stated that while many factory and industry owners in the nation paid the workers’ salaries and Eid bonuses on schedule, there were disputes amongst many owners regarding the workers’ salaries and bonuses. Unannounced factory closures occurred before Eid. The employees became infuriated as a result. The workers needed to go on the streets to demand their pay. Every year, it makes for an uncomfortable atmosphere. The same incident that occurred last year has happened again. Ensuring resolutions to disagreeable issues is what we desire. We do not want employees to abandon their jobs and live on the streets. The worker and the owner both lose out on this. We aim for positive working relationships between employers and employees.
The leaders claimed that the informal sector employs a sizable portion of the labor force in the nation. It is impossible to dispute their role in maintaining the state’s economy. However, the truth is that workers who live their entire lives in exchange for their daily labor do not experience the joy of Eid. In this instance, the state has the option of bringing the happiness of Eid to these workers’ homes. We wish to compile a list of informal sector employees and offer them unique incentives.
The country’s working class is said to make up two-thirds of the population. If these people are unhappy with their lives, the state system cannot be considered successful. The state should take the lead this Eid to ensure that the homes of the workers are filled with celebration. We kindly request that the state’s responsible leaders step up.
